DEADLY BUT CURABLE
One person has done it, why not the worldScout fights for her life, but finally she has won

WHITE RIVER- On the 1st of July 2010 the Scout Media Team (SMT*) interviewed a local Scout leader (27) who survived from T.B. (Tuberculosis) and was cured after taking her treatment properly for seven months.
Our friend shared her experience about the disease with the team and said “I had symptoms such as back pains, night sweat, loss of weight and appetite.” That is why she went for the HIV test and found out that she was negative. She continued to tell us:  “Then I was transferred to the hospital for a T.B. test and the results came out positive.” She recovered quickly because her friends and family were very supportive throughout her struggle with the disease: “They were even reminding me to take my medication.”
In addition, she mentioned: “Usually, what makes some people not finish their medication is that it makes you eat a lot, feel dizzy and it has high side effects especially on the skin, so I advise people who are infected to take their medication immediately and eat a healthy diet."
Some people prefer the traditional healers’ treatment but the interviewee said “I do not believe in ‘inyanga’ treatment for T.B. It is better to go a medical doctor.”

The SMT had a workshop that took place from 28 June - 02 July 2010 and they learned about the making of newspapers. The theme for the workshop was tuberculosis. When they researched about it in Clinics and the internet, they found out that 1.8 billion people per year are affected, which is equal to one-third of the entire world’s population.  People with HIV are at high risk of getting infected with tuberculosis and this is a huge problem in Mpumalanga.
Do not stand on a sinking boat! There is a vaccine that protects against T.B. that must be given to children at an early age. Prevention is “Ayoba” than cure.
